A reader who does not hav e access to the DE-serie s board will still find the tutoria l useful to learn how the FPGA programmin g and configura tion task is performed. T o show how this is done, it is assumed that the user has access to the Altera DE-series Development and Education board connec ted to a computer that has Quartus II software install ed. The last step in the design process in volve s configuring the designed circ uit in an actua l FPGA device. ![]() T wo other versions of this tutorial are also ava ilable, which use the V erilog and VHDL hardware description languages, respectively. This tutorial makes use of the schematic design entry method, in which the user draws a graphical diagram of the circui t. The Quartus II system includes full support for all of the popular methods of entering a description of the desired circuit into a CAD system. The design process is illustrated by giving step-by- step instruct ions for using the Quartu s II software to implement a very simple circuit in an Altera FPGA device. It gives a general over view of a typical CAD flow for designing circuits that are implemente d by using FPGA devices, and show s how this flow is realiz ed in the Quartus II softwar e.
